The most important keywords for the personal research for the last six months were ‘recursive’ and ‘undecidable’.
During the early stage of the studies, the theoretical research on Gödel has been the starting point in clarifying the term ‘decidable consequence’. The objective of the text research on 『On Formally Undecidable Propositions of Principia Mathematica and Related Systems』, Kurt Gödel was not to analyze the mathematical or logic itself, but to observe the keywords related to the ‘perfection and imperfection’, ‘sense and nonsense’ and ‘valid and invalid’ from a new perspective.
Interestingly, the book <법학통론Basics of Law> implies a similar point of view related to this philosophical value. It states the law as the determined condition of human behavior to maintain a certain social system in a continuous flow.
In mathematical term, a valid formula is group of finite sequence of undefined terms. In another word, a formula can lose its validity if any composing sequence meets an infinite or incomplete condition. Applying the idea to narrative building, I have created four different forms of possible sequences; a circle, a spiral, a multiple but separated circles and a continuous line.
The distinction between the sense and nonsense of sound is simply whether the logic is successfully shared or not among the subjects. If a certain principle or logic meets a common agreement within a community, a discussion is considered sensible, or as an understandable truth as long as it is on the same thread.
However, problems occur due to the complexity of recursive boundaries. Multiple possibilities of truths can simultaneously coexist even though they seem to conflict each other. The historian Paul Veyne defined this paradox as the ‘constitutive imagination’. Developing the idea within the artistic context, I have defined this phenomenon as the ‘Constitutive Reality’.
